& Fitness Features Joe Decker and Lance Armstrong Surviving
"Extreme Cardio"
The
December issue of Muscle & Fitness Magazine profiles five
athletes including Joe Decker and Lance Armstrong who have survived
"extreme cardio." Decker completed the Badwater Ultra Marathon
two times. Every July, this 135-mile running race winds through Death
Valley where the asphalt temperature reaches 210 degrees (F). "The
first year I was there, I melted the soles off seven pairs of tennis
shoes," Decker tells Muscle & Fitness. "Guys
have blood pumping out their shoes. You get there and you're like 'Christ.
This sucks.'" According to Muscle & Fitness, the Badwater
Ultramarthon burns 22,500 calories and would take approximately 25 hours
running on a treadmill at a moderate pace.
Decker first came to the attention of Muscle & Fitness because
of his extraordinary physical fitness achievements including breaking
the 2000 Guinness World Records "24-Hour Physical Fitness Challenge."
Decker will be sharing his secrets to losing weight and getting fit
in his upcoming book The World's
Fittest You: Four Weeks to Total Fitness (Dutton, 2004). He also
writes a syndicated column Get Fit with the World's Fittest Man and
is developing a health and fitness television show with NBC Today
Show co-host Al Roker's production company.
